So by now you are probably a minimalist, sustainable, organic, vegan…right?
Nope; okay well we, the people, are moving forward to the next step in saving the planet.
Some may still think global warming is a conspiracy theory, but regardless of if it is or isn’t brands
across the globe are taking the environment seriously. Which seems to becoming a theme these past
few years. Brands are finally taking notice to public concerns and demands.
Fashion is next up! Brands are using regenerative farming to grow the crops needed for their
fashionable threads.
Haven’t heard of regenerative farming yet? No problem, I’ve got you covered. It is basically like
farming, but without all the extra humans have added over the year to mess up the soil such as
weed pulling, pesticides, store bought fertilizers, and single crop. The goal is to make healthy soil by
keeping the farmland as natural as possible. Allowing for various crops to grow as weedlike plants
called cover crops nourish them. Then comes animals like chickens, sheep, and cows to graze and
fertilize the land naturally.
“If you’ve never heard about the amazing potential of regenerative agriculture and land use practices
to naturally sequester a critical mass of CO2 in the soil and forests, you’re not alone. One of the
best-kept secrets in the world today is that the solution to global warming and the climate crisis (as
well as poverty and deteriorating public health) lies right under our feet, and at the end of our knives
and forks.” says Ronnie Cummins, Regeneration International Steering Committee Member
The conversion of 2.47 million acres of regular farmland to regenerative agriculture is underway and
set to be producing raw materials for progressive fashion brands such as Gucci and Saint Laurent.
Meanwhile Patagonia and The North face are marketing clothing made of regenerative cotton.
One of climate changes prevalent factors is industrial farming. Farming needs to not only reduce, but
stop and also reverse it’s pollution and greenhouse emissions.
